  5. The Greek alphabet is used frequently in Mathematics.  Consequently, so you
  6. aren't distracted by nonessentials when you are studying, you must be
  7. comfortable with the following symbols :

  9. Lower case :
  10.                        α   alpha
  11.                        ß   beta
  12.                        τ   gamma
  13.                        δ   delta
  14.                        ε   epsilon 
  15.                        σ   sigma
  16.                        µ   mu
  17.                        Θ   theta
  18.                        φ   phi

  21. Upper case :
  22.                        Γ   gamma
  23.                        Σ   sigma
  24.                        Φ   phi

  26. Most instructors are so familiar with these symbols that they will casually
  27. interchange them with "real" symbols, like A, B, X, and Y, without even
  28. thinking twice about it.  You must be able to do the same.
